West Salem Visual Arts Classic Team Takes 3rd Place at State!

On Friday April 12th, the West Salem Visual Arts Classic team competed in the state VAC competition at UW-Madison.  They competed against 7 other teams who had qualified for state.

After the paint flew, clay dust settled, and the scores were tallied, West Salem earned the third place trophy at the State VAC competition.  This is only the second time in the team's 15 year history that a West Salem team has brought home hardware from state.

Congratulations VAC!

WSHS Art Student of the Month--April 2013

Rachel Auna is the West Salem High School Art Department Student of the Month for April.  While Rachel creates art in the 'traditional' sense (drawing, painting, and ceramics), the true beauty of her work is manifested  when she combines her love for visual art and textiles.  This work often blurs the line between art and craft, in a witty, tongue-in-cheek manner.  Some of her art is meant to be worn, while other pieces are created from using sewing materials and techniques in a way that is meant to be viewed rather than tried on.

Rachel's work will be on display at the Marie W. Heider Center for the Arts Gallery in West Salem.  Her work is alongside Mary Thompson, Kathy Fitchuk, and Sherri Diamon.  A reception for this work will be on Thursday, April 18th from 6-7:30pm.  The public is welcome.

Congratulations Rachel!
