Sharper Sharpeners for my Sharp Students

The elementary school just received word that their request, placed on the website Donorschoose.org was fully funded and they will receive 2 new industrial strength pencil sharpeners very soon,  Which is great when over 800 students use them each week!

New West Salem Middle School T-shirt design

West Salem Middle Schoolers will soon be sporting new t-shirts!  A few months ago, students were offered the challenge of coming up with a new design or logo for our tees.  Many wonderfully designs were submitted, and because they were so hard to choose from, there were actually THREE winners!  Aspects of three different designs were combined for our final.  Artists Nora M., Melanie W., and Allison R. each had a part in creating this school-spirited design...great job!  And here it is...

Art Department Logo

As you can see, the West Salem Art Department is attempting to make the launch into cyberworld and, in turn, make our program more accessible to students, parents and community members.  We thought it would be best to design a logo first, with the help of a talented high school artist!  Seth designed our new art department logo seen above.  Thank you so much, Seth!

High School Artwork featured at Pizza Villa

The West Salem Art Department is proud to announce that the High School Painting I class is currently displaying their work at Pizza Villa in Downtown West Salem.  The class, comprised of Sophomores through Seniors, painted "in the style of" a particular art movement in history.

Bridget Olson, who works at Pizza Villa, approached the West Salem Art Department about the possibility of having a 'rotating exhibition' of student work at the restaurant.  The High School Art Department elected to go first, displaying the most recent paintings of the Painting I class.

On Wednesday, December 14th there will be a celebration for the artists and their families at Pizza Villa.  Students and families can come and enjoy the artwork, pizza, and camaraderie from 5-7 pm.
